Diller Scofidio + Renfro DS+R, one of the most innovative international architecture and design firms, has been selected to lead the transformation of Madrid’s AZCA financial district through the RENAZCA project. This initiative seeks to revitalize the area urbanistically, economically and socially, turning it into an open, connected space for culture and leisure.
The RENAZCA project marks a significant milestone in urban design and cultural planning, strengthening DS+R’s presence in Spain and fostering new opportunities for collaboration on projects that integrate architecture, art and cutting-edge technology. In partnership with Gustafson Porter + Bowman and b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos, the studio has designed a biodiverse urban ecosystem incorporating native plantings and a dynamic water fountain inspired by the area’s historic riverbeds. Additionally, a rainwater collection and storage system will enable sustainable landscape irrigation.
