As part of my Hispanic Studies degree, I spent the first five months of my year abroad working at Mariscal Abogados. Through this internship I hoped to develop and improve my linguistic abilities as well as explore the prospect of pursuing a legal career by gaining some practical experience in the sector.
During my internship, I worked in the Commercial, Corporate and Labour departments and I was entrusted with several tasks such as translating articles, agreements and contracts from Spanish to English (and occasionally vice versa), and drafting sales and purchase agreements. Another task I often carried out involved conducting research on a variety of topics affecting legal matters in both Spain and the UK; for example, the conflicts between the development of new technologies and workers’ rights, and the effect that the tumultuous political situation in Cataluña continues to have on business investments in the region.
Anyone who is looking to gain an insight into the day-to-day life of an international law firm, I would highly recommend interning at Mariscal Abogados. This internship has certainly been a valuable and wonderful experience thanks to the lawyers and interns I have met here. Everyone is always willing to help you, answer any of your queries and give constructive feedback on your work. I have thoroughly enjoyed working in such a multicultural environment surrounded by lawyers who are experts in their respective fields.
